Learner Voice
The aim of the Learner Voice is to ensure that learners have a real say in the way that they learn and the experiences they have at College. It means that the College can gain a clear picture of what it is that students want, how best they learn, and can take on board their ideas, comments and concerns and act on them. Students can become a Tutor Rep who then leads on collecting this student feedback and responding back to their peers.
Following Learner Voice feedback here are some examples of recent changes:
· Installation of additional PCs and wifi points across College
· Over £50k invested in media equipment to support curriculum needs
· Increased access to careers team and resources
· Healthier food options now available in College cafes
· Additional workspaces and study zones created across sites
· Table tennis tables installed across various College sites
· Lockers added across the College
There are also opportunities for those students nominated as a Student Rep to progress onto the Learner Leadership team (LLT) where elected representatives from each faculty meet regularly to discuss learner feedback and suggest improvements. With one student elected as the FE Student Governor to bring knowledge and experience as a member of the student body to the College Board.
Tutorial
To ensure you are supported throughout your studies with us, you will be allocated a personal tutor and a tutorial group. Your personal tutor will provide regular one-to-ones and individual support for your studies. In addition to this, you will receive regular group tutorials during which you will work through the E.C.H.O.E.S.* personal development programme of core themes, designed to enhance your wider personal development.
Many of the College’s Extra events and sessions link with the E.C.H.O.E.S. personal development programme throughout the year. This helps to supplement and support topics by bringing them to life with activities learners can engage with across College.

In addition to our many Academies (designed for learners who practice their chosen skill at a high level and wish to continue improving their performance alongside their studies), we also have many clubs and societies covering a range of interests. These include everything from kickboxing to volleyball, CPR training and British Sign Language, Duke of Edinburgh challenges, casual gaming, languages to cooking, debating to the environment, …and the list goes on!
These clubs offer the chance to discover new passions and test your skills and, if you want to introduce something new, then we can support you in establishing your own society.
*Please note that our clubs and societies may change from year to year as we regularly review our offer to ensure it reflects the interests of as many students as possible. We are always keen to hear new ideas, so please share your suggestions with the Extra team. We actively encourage and support learners who would like to start their own clubs or societies, helping to create opportunities that are shaped by student interests and passions.
