Petroc Students Immerse Themselves in the Future of Creative Media at NEC Birmingham

Students from Petroc’s Creative Media, eSports, and Art programmes enjoyed an action-packed and inspiring industry visit on Friday 28 November, travelling to the NEC Birmingham for a full day at both MCM Comic Con and the EGX Gaming Convention.

Departing Barnstaple bright and early at 6am, the group set off together for an immersive experience designed to broaden their understanding of the fast-moving creative and digital sectors. Across the two major events, learners explored cutting-edge exhibitions, hands-on interactive sessions, and innovative creative showcases.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to engage with games developers, digital artists, media producers, cosplayers, and eSports professionals, gaining valuable insight into current trends shaping the industry. They were also able to try out emerging technologies, discover new creative techniques, and see real-world examples of the pathways they are studying at Petroc.

After a full and inspiring day, the group returned to Barnstaple at around 10pm – tired, but enriched by an experience that helped strengthen their understanding of contemporary media and creative industries.

This visit is one of many opportunities Petroc provides to ensure learners can connect their studies with real-world practice, preparing them for the next steps in their academic or professional journeys.
