Extend
Stand Out with Extend at North Devon College
Extend is a unique and inspiring academic enrichment programme designed for A Level students who want to challenge themselves, broaden their horizons, and achieve their full potential.
When you study A Levels at North Devon College, your programme will usually include four elements. This typically consists of three core A Levels, or a combination of two A Levels and a BTEC Extended Certificate, alongside a fourth ‘Extend’ option, chosen to match your interests, ambitions, and future career or university plans.
If you’re a high-achieving student who enjoys academic challenge, you may choose to study an additional A Level as your fourth element (subject to GCSE grades). Some students may also take part in a Sports Academy programme instead of an Extend option.
Extend is designed to give you more than just qualifications. It helps you develop confidence, independence, creativity, and critical thinking - the qualities universities and employers value most.
You could explore cutting-edge subjects through AI, Data Science and Geospatial Intelligence, investigate the mysteries of the universe in Astrophysics and Particle Physics Research, or build confidence and leadership skills in Public Speaking and Persuasive Communication.
How to Apply
With so many exciting opportunities available, we recommend taking time to explore your options before attending your interview. Think about your strengths, interests, and future goals, and how your Extend choice could support them.
Ideally, you’ll have decided on your preferred fourth option before your interview - then simply let us know your choice on the day. In many cases, students applying for A Levels will already have completed their interview, so we’ll be sharing this page with applicants and inviting them to select their preferred Extend option ahead of enrolment.
To find out more about Extend and explore your options in person, we recommend attending one of our Open Events.
