Award-Winning Author Claire Barker Inspires English Language and Literature Students

English Language and English Literature students were captivated during a recent visit by acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Claire Barker. Known for her enchanting Knitbone Pepper series, featuring ghostly animals and a spectral dog, Claire shared insights into her creative journey and career. A resident of North Devon, Claire’s artistic path began with an illustration course at North Devon College, which sparked her transition into writing. Today, she crafts her magical stories in a shepherd’s hut at the bottom of her garden, a fittingly whimsical setting for her work.

During the visit, students were treated to a mix of humour and wisdom as Claire discussed her career milestones, the challenge of finding an agent, and her passion for writing about magic. The session was highly interactive, with students eagerly lining up to ask questions at the end of the session.
