Future Football Stars Provide Inspiration on International Women’s Day
Sports students at North Devon College stepped up to the mark International Women’s Day, delivering an energetic and empowering football skills event for more than 120 local primary school girls.
Working in partnership with local school games organisers, the students took the lead in planning and delivering a vibrant football gala for Year 4 and 5 pupils. Young participants from Southmead, Sticklepath, Kingsacre and Marwood primary schools came together for a day of skill-building, teamwork and confidence-boosting activities.
Throughout the event, U10 players were guided through a series of engaging drills designed to develop ball control, coordination and game awareness. The sessions were led entirely by North Devon College’s Level 1 and Level 3 Sports students, who embraced the opportunity to showcase their leadership, communication and coaching expertise.
The day encouraged young girls to get involved in football and build confidence in a supportive environment.
Student coach Evie-Mae reflected on the experience:
“I felt I could naturally step into the role of the coach. I enjoyed being positive and encouraging, motivating the girls to engage fully and achieve their goals.”
Student coach James Leach added:
“It really helped me improve my leadership and communication skills across different ability levels. I felt confident and positive when coaching, working on demonstrations and supporting the girls to develop their ball control and overall football skills.”
