Petroc A Level Students Embark on Life-Changing Learning Journey Across Morocco

22 of our A Level students swapped the classroom for the captivating landscapes of Morocco in a once-in-a-lifetime educational adventure, made possible through the Petroc Go programme and UK Turing Scheme funding.

Accompanied by five dedicated staff members, the students spent 15 days exploring the country from Tangier in the north to Marrakesh in the south, in partnership with Travelbound and AME D’Aventure. The immersive itinerary combined cultural discovery, academic enrichment, and personal development, aligning with Petroc’s mission to provide transformative learning experiences beyond the classroom.

The journey included guided tours of Morocco’s most iconic cities—Tangier, Fes, Marrakech, and the coastal town of Essaouira—giving students a first-hand look at the country’s vibrant culture and history.

Educational highlights featured visits to IFMEREE campuses in Tangier and Ouarzazate, where students gained insights into Morocco’s renewable energy and engineering sectors.

The group also delved into the rich heritage of Morocco through explorations of historic sites such as the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, the UNESCO-listed Ait Benhaddou, the world’s oldest continually operating university at al-Qarawiyyin, and the winding Medina of Fes.

Adventure and cultural immersion went hand in hand, with students enjoying a camel trek across the Sahara, hiking in the breathtaking Atlas Mountains, and sandboarding at the remote Ame Desert Camp. They also got a taste of local life through traditional Moroccan cooking classes and visits to rural villages and kasbahs.

More than just a travel experience, the trip helped students cultivate essential life skills including independence, teamwork, and communication—qualities vital for their personal growth and future employability.

As the group concluded their Moroccan adventure, they returned home not only with full suitcases, but with greater confidence, broader perspectives, and a renewed curiosity to take on the world.
