Petroc Animal Care Centre Officially Launches with Opening Ceremony
Petroc is thrilled to announce the grand public opening of its brand-new, state-of-the-art Animal Care Centre, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to excellence in animal welfare and education. The celebratory event, held on Thursday 5 December, welcomed a diverse group of guests, including industry professionals, staff, students, and members of the local community.
The centre was built by Mister Modular with the goal to deliver a modern, purpose-built facility with specialised animal housing that was cost-effective, durable, and could be installed swiftly over the summer break to minimise disruption. Mister Modular proposed an innovative solution using refurbished, modular frames, reconfiguring existing steel structures to fit the college’s specifications. Over 18 weeks, the new facility was assembled on-site, seamlessly integrating with the campus and featuring a sleek, modern cladded finish.
The festivities began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolising the official launch of this cutting-edge facility. Petroc’s Principal and key stakeholders addressed the attendees, emphasising the centre’s pivotal role in providing hands-on learning opportunities for students and delivering top-tier care to animals.
Following the ceremony, Animal Care students took the spotlight, guiding guests on an engaging tour of the new facility. Visitors were introduced to the centre’s modern equipment, innovative spaces, and wide array of animal care initiatives. The students’ passion and knowledge showcased the high-quality training and education Petroc is dedicated to providing. To add a warm, personal touch to the celebration, attendees were treated to an assortment of homemade cakes and refreshments prepared by the centre’s dedicated staff. The event not only highlighted the advanced capabilities of the new Animal Care Centre but also reflected the community spirit and collaborative environment that Petroc fosters.
Jess Owens, Animal Care Centre Manager said “We’re incredibly excited to be working in our new centre, we’ve now got a place our animals can really call home and a facility where our students can develop their industry skills in a professional environment using state of the art equipment.”
Gareth Thomas, Lecturer for Animal Care added “The centre gives students the opportunity to work with a greater range of species in as naturalistic enclosures as we can to simulate industry standards of the zoo’s, veterinary practises and other animal care facilities our students will work with in the future.”
