The stage was set, the amps were cranked up, and the energy was electric as Petroc Music Department hosted the first heat of the Devon Secondary Schools Battle of the Bands 2025. Held at The Nexus on Barnstaple Campus, the event brought together young musical talent from across North Devon, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd.
Bands from Petroc, Ilfracombe Academy, West Buckland School, Bideford College and Atlantic Academy each took to the stage, delivering standout performances that showcased their musical skills, creativity, and stage presence. Each act performed one song each, thrilling the audience with a well-chosen cover. Following their performances, the bands participated in a post-performance interview with the judging panel, giving them a chance to reflect on their set, discuss their influences, and receive valuable feedback.
The competition was fierce, but one band ultimately emerged victorious with West Buckland School securing a place in the next round, getting even closer to a chance to perform at the final at Exeter Pheonix on February 25 as well as winning the grand prize of recording time and future music festival appearances.
Speaking after the event, one of the judges praised the participants, saying, โThe level of talent on display tonight was incredible. Every band brought something unique to the stage, and itโs inspiring to see such passion for music in our local schools.โ
With the first heat wrapped up, excitement is already building for the next stage of the competition. As the remaining rounds unfold, the Devon Secondary Schools Battle of the Bands 2025 promises to be a celebration of young musical talent, creativity, and show-stopping performances.
