Petroc Students Gain Career Insights During Visit to Hinkley Point C

Petroc students took an exciting step towards their future careers yesterday during an eye-opening visit to Hinkley Point C. The visit, part of their ongoing preparation for life beyond college, included a guided tour of the nuclear power station site and an immersive experience at the state-of-the-art Visitor Centre.
Students were given a detailed presentation outlining the purpose of Hinkley Point C and the crucial role it plays in powering the UK’s future with sustainable energy. The session also explored the wide variety of careers available across the organisation, ranging from technical and engineering roles to positions in logistics, administration, and project management.
A major highlight of the visit was the practical advice on accessible employment pathways for young people, particularly those aged 18–24 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Students learned about supported internships and inclusive apprenticeship opportunities that focus on skill development rather than academic achievement. Applicants are assessed through hands-on workshops that allow them to demonstrate their abilities in a real-world context.
With an impressive 91% of participants in these programmes going on to secure full-time employment, Petroc students left feeling inspired and well-informed. They were also introduced to the “Young Hinkley Point C” website, a valuable platform that offers virtual workshops, exclusive learning materials, and tips on building interview confidence.
The visit not only expanded students’ understanding of the energy industry but also highlighted the many inclusive and practical routes available to build successful and sustainable careers.
