Spotlight on School Uniform Reform Brought to Life with Humour and Creativity in Petroc Training Kitchen

Petroc’s Barnstaple campus recently played host to a unique film production as Sam B Video visited the Lifestyle Centre to shoot a segment for their upcoming creative project titled “Dress for the Job.”
The filming, which has taken place across several locations including one of Petroc’s state-of-the-art training kitchens, is part of a wider campaign that challenges outdated views on school uniforms in the UK. Rooted in tradition, current uniform policies often fail to reflect the needs and diversity of today’s student body. The film aims to ignite discussion by questioning whether the clothes students wear to school are truly fit for purpose.
The campaign uses humour and vivid imagery to draw attention to the impracticality of rigid dress codes in modern classrooms. Viewers will be introduced to a series of short vignette scenes, each portraying a character hilariously miscast in attire unsuitable for their task, such as a rock climber attempting a scramble in a formal dress or a footballer in a blazer and brogues. The message is clear: just as professionals wouldn’t work in the wrong outfit, students shouldn’t be expected to learn in clothing that hinders comfort, expression, and movement.
Filming at the Lifestyle Centre allowed the production to capture dynamic kitchen based scenes, highlighting the importance of clothing that suits active and varied educational environments.
We’re thrilled to support a project that not only showcases our fantastic facilities, but also aligns with wider conversations about wellbeing, identity, and practicality in education, It was a privilege to host such a creative and thought-provoking production.
The completed film is expected to be released later this year, with Petroc proud to play a part in sparking a national conversation on what students really need to succeed.
