Sports Massage students raise money for charity at RMB Chivenor

Sports Massage students gained work experience and raised money for Help for Heroes by setting up a pop-up event at RMB Chivenor.

In total, 15 students from Petroc’s Level 3 Sports Massage course set up a temporary clinic to offer sports massage to the Royal Marines. The Marine Commandos had recently returned from the Bahamas where they had been working on hurricane relief.

“The Marines welcomed the opportunity for some rest and relaxation and they were really impressed with the professionalism of the Petroc students,” said Sports Massage Programme Manager Teresa Davies, who set up the event. “The students raised £100 in just three hours!”

Third-year student, Karl Found, said working with the Marines at Chivenor base enabled him to develop both practical and communication skills.

“The event gave me valuable experience and feedback working with real clients. These type of activities at Petroc help prepare me for university, where I will be studying for a Sports Therapy Degree in September 2018,” he said.

Teresa added: “The event was an opportunity for the students to promote themselves and gain potential clients, plus it was another good way of finishing the course.”

The next Level 3 Sports Massage course at Petroc starts in September 2018.
