Freya-Soleil Derbyshire

Biography

What made you pick this particular course/Petroc?
I first studied BTEC Drama, BTEC Sport and BTEC Business at Ilfracombe sixth form and I wasn’t enjoying sports and business. So I thought it was right to choose a subject I enjoy. Performing Arts was the best decision I ever made.

What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
I enjoy being able to have close friendships with people on my course – as we all have interests in the same things. Moreover, I enjoy being able to put on lots of different types of shows as it allows me to explore different types of theatre I never thought I would.

Did you undertake any work experience?
I do my work experience at The Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe, where I put on a public performance of a musical.

What do you want to do after you leave Petroc?
I plan on taking a gap year and going travelling to Australia & Canada. I’m not sure if I’m going to university yet but if I did I think I would study technical Theatre, but either way I’m taking a gap year.

Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course?
Be prepared for the coursework. It looks difficult but it’s easier than it looks. Also make sure to stay on top of the coursework, it’ll help you in the long run.
