Petroc has worked with NCS since 2012, delivering life-changing experiences to young people in North Devon, Mid Devon and Exeter. To date, we have worked with over 1,500 young people and have helped them to realise their potential, smash their future goals and get involved in a lot of fun activities!
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT US, WHAT EXACTLY IS NCS?
Designed for 16-17 year olds, NCS is a youth programme that runs every summer and autumn, during school holidays.
The experience is all about emboldening young people, by giving them the buzz of being an adult (without all the responsibilities). On NCS, participants live away from home and get a taste for independence. They mix with a new crowd of people and take on exciting challenges together.
It also helps young people to develop skills that will set them up for life after school. Participants then get a chance to use these new-found skills, by tackling a passion project of their choosing. NCS is dedicated to providing a platform for young people where they can speak up, get their voice heard and tackle real-world issues close to home.
The experience might last just a few weeks, but the impact? That lasts a lot longer. Since day one, in 2011, nearly 600,000 young people have taken part in NCS, completing over14.5 million hours of community action, and gaining priceless life experiences.

YOUR SUMMER 2020:
In your first week, you’ll live away from home and nurture your adventurous side. Whether you take on the high ropes, wild waves, or scale a wall, one thing we can guarantee is, by Friday night you’ll feel fearless (and pretty worn out)! Don’t worry, you’ll have the weekend back home to catch your breath.
Next up? Enjoy another five days away from home with your new-found mates. Get a crash course in Adulting and pick up skills to set you up for life. By the time you’re done, you’ll be speaking to a room full of people without freezing up and know a whole load more about what you want from life after school.
Fuelled by your first two weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to use your voice and have a lasting impact. Want to see a change in your community? Countrywide? Or even globally? This is your chance to deliver an impressive ‘passion project’ – we can’t wait to see what you and your teammates achieve.
Ok, so this is a VIPOYE (Very Important Part Of Your Experience), naturally. By this point, you’ll have achieved A LOT. Now it’s time to be recognised. You’ve got to go out with a bang, right?
“...Is there an after party?”, we hear you scream. Yeah, kinda!
So enjoyed your summer? Don’t want to let go? That’s okay, just get in contact with the Team, we run a Local Youth Board. Where you carry on pushing those passions!
When do we go?
NCS during the summer, but don’t worry, it won’t take up all of your time off!
This year Petroc will be offering 4 week and 3 week programmes:
- 29/06/2020 (4 weeks)
- 13/07/2020 (3 weeks)
- 27/07/2020 (4 weeks)
Not only do we have the summer, but we will also be hosting BUILD UP events throughout the year; get a taste for the summer and meet likeminded people.
How much will it cost?
‘Technically’ a place on NCS costs £1,500 but because we’re government funded, the most we’ll ask you to contribute is £50. And at certain times of the year it could cost even less! We also have a bursary scheme available that’s 100% confidential. If you’re not sure you can afford it, just get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.
Want to work for us?
We are currently on the hunt for more NCS Team Leaders to join us on this epic summer. If you fancy having summer of a lifetime, whilst also ending up with some money in your pocket, we’d love to hear from you. Team Leaders must be 18+, enthusiastic and willing to give everything a go.
For more information please get in touch using the information above or have a look at the NCS website.
