Petroc finalist in AoC Beacon Awards

We’re proud to announce that Petroc has made it through as a finalist in the prestigious AoC Beacon Awards in The British Council Award for Internationalism.

Association of Colleges’ Beacon Awards celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK colleges each year. The award, supported by the British Council, celebrates a college’s outstanding activities in international cooperation and exchange. The finalist colleges demonstrate how international activity is embedded within the college’s broader aims and illustrate how organisational, staff, curriculum or student initiatives contribute to improved outcomes for students.

Sean Mackney, Principal and CEO at Petroc, said: “Petroc is incredibly proud of the international opportunities we have been able to offer our students and staff over the past 20 years. Our college is based in a very rural part of the country where opportunities can sometimes be limited and so to be able to offer our students the chance to travel, gain real life work experience in other countries is invaluable. We see our students grow in confidence through these trips and it raises their aspirations to know that anything is possible. Reaching the final of The British Council Award for Internationalism recognises Petroc as a college looking at the future workforce and preparing our students to be successful in it.”

Mark White OBE DL, Chair of AoC’s Charitable Trust, said: “The AoC Beacon Awards showcase exactly why colleges are so important to every community and why people value them. This award recognises international collaboration and exchange, importantly helping to shape an international mind-set in learners. The work of the finalists and their partnerships overseas show how vital colleges are to maintaining our reputation and connections.”

The AoC Beacon Award Winners will be announced in Spring 2023.
