Petroc Heads to Morocco for Green Skills Partnership Visit

This week, Petroc staff will further develop international collaboration on sustainable development and green skills. Faculty Manager for Engineering & Motor Vehicle, Jackie Theakston-Thomas, and Lecturer in Built Environment and Higher Education, Bob Moores, will represent Petroc on a four-day visit to Morocco from 3 to 6 December, 2024.

This visit is part of the college’s commitment to advancing green skills education through global partnerships. Hosted and fundedby the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships and working closely with IFMEREE (the Moroccan Institute for Training in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency), the programme will include a packed schedule of meetings, seminars, and site visits to explore innovations in sustainable energy and green hydrogen.

Programme Highlights include:

  • Meeting with the IFMEREE management board in Casablanca, where Jackie and Bob will discuss opportunities for collaboration and training in renewable energy technologies.
  • Travel to Rabat for an exclusive dinner meeting at the British Embassy, where they will connect with the British Council’s Country Director and Regional Director to explore shared goals in green education and skills.
  • A visit to the IFMEREE Tangier campus, where the team will meet with the Director General, institute leadership, trainers, and students. This will include a site tour and discussions on sustainable technology training methods.
  • A seminar on Green Hydrogen, hosted at IFMEREE Tangier, focusing on cutting-edge developments in this emerging sustainable energy source.
  • A visit to local employers in Tangier, offering insights into the region’s renewable energy sector and workforce needs. This will provide valuable information to shape Petroc’s own green skills curriculum.

A Commitment to Green Skills

The visit marks a significant step in Petroc’s dedication to preparing students for careers in sustainable industries. Jackie Theakston-Thomas commented: “This trip is an incredible opportunity to learn from global leaders in renewable energy and to bring those insights back to our students and partners at Petroc. We’re excited to develop collaborations that will enhance green skills education both locally and internationally.”

Bob Moores added: “The chance to meet with industry experts and students in Morocco is invaluable. We’re looking forward to exploring innovative training methods and understanding how employers are addressing sustainability challenges.”

Stay tuned for updates from the team during their visit!
