Biography

Dawn grew up and now lives in North Devon with her husband, children and grandchildren. Most of her working life has been spent supporting young people aged 2 to 25 and their families. She has 22 years’ experience working in the education sector originally as a secondary maths teacher but over the course of her career she has held various leadership roles within successful schools, including being the Deputy Executive Head teacher of a Multi Academy Trust.

Following a successful career as a school leader, in 2014 Dawn joined Devon County Council and two years later was appointed as their Head of Education. This role impacted on the safeguarding and educational outcomes of over 100,000 young people in approximately 412 schools and educational settings across the county. This required strong strategic leadership, a commitment to work in partnership and a passion to improve outcomes for all young people.

Dawn retired as the Head of Education earlier this year but is committed to doing whatever she can to help ensure that everyone has access to high quality local education and the opportunity to succeed in community which values them as individuals, regardless of their background or circumstance.
