HOSTED BY THE UNIVERSITY CENTRE AT PETROC
5:00 to 7:00pm (refreshments included)

From ocean engineering to marine biology, from underwater filming to drone piloting, from autonomous subs to environmental educators, from marine researchers to marine economists … the list of careers in the marine industry is endless!

The South West is leading a UK revolution in renewable and green technologies, with an ambition to become the greenest economy in England and the first to reach net zero.

By 2045, Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) production in the Celtic Sea aims to supply a quarter of the UK’s energy requirements, alongside clean propulsion, aquaculture and green hydrogen all heralding an exciting era of innovation and new business growth. These developments provide the opportunity to transform the economy of Northern Devon within a UNESCO biosphere, to grow and create new businesses, and to offer exciting world-class careers across a broad range of sectors.

This community event is aimed at adults, parents and the local community to learn more about the exciting future careers created by the renewables and green tech revolution across northern Devon.

5:00–5:30pm: Exhibition and refreshments

5:30–6:00pm: Interactive workshops. Learn about wind turbine construction, seaweed ecology, the SS Freshspring steamship, test marine vehicles in wave tanks; and experience VR simulations of FLOW (Floating Offshore Wind).

6:00-7:00pm: Marine Futures Talk.
