Ben Watson
Biography
What made you pick this particular course?
I’ve wanted to help others as a profession for a long time. I am also a big advocate for being able to discuss our feelings and emotions openly. This course seemed like the right fit for me as I have a background in psychological studies, and I wanted to elevate my skills and start the career I’ve always wanted. Petroc is also my local college and I can walk here (weather permitting!).
What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
My lecturers have been consistently fantastic, going out of their way to help with any problems, big or small and making sure I get the most out of the course along with my peers. My classmates and working alongside them has also been a great pleasure. Another big highlight for me is working with the Adult Success Coach to help my balance life/college balance, as well as learn valuable techniques for exams, revision, powerpoint presentations etc.
Did you undertake any work experience throughout your studies?
I haven’t undertaken any work experience yet; however, this is planned for later in the year. I am looking forward it and am confident in my lecturers assisting me through the transition.
What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
I plan to be practicing as a counsellor, probably through agency work to start, but hopefully open my own practice in the years to come.
Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
Definitely apply and give it a go! The lectures, people you’ll meet and things you will learn about yourself will stay with you throughout your life.
