Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
I chose to come to Petroc as the pass levels are very good and it is the closest college offering a better level of extended education and has more variety to offer for my next steps.

What made you pick this particular course?
I chose this particular course as I had always wanted to learn a trade for a career for my future and I felt barbering offered a sense of security. My love for barbering was always there, as I loved being able to get a new style and using my local barbers as a hub for interaction and a place to chill out and meet new people as well as looking fresh.

What have been the highlights so far?
The highlight of my course has definitely been having someone as amazing and experienced as Derik Jenkins (the tutor of barbering) teaching us. He offers a special 1 to 1 feeling with all of his work – encouraging and helping us, meeting the fellow barbers and clients. It is a really nice feeling as you can interact and build friendships that will last for as long as they come to you for a haircut, which is a very special bond and feeling.

What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
My favourite thing about studying at Petroc is how you are treated like an adult and are given the tools to make your learning better. They have good facilities and staff for everything you may encounter through studying, and everyone is willing to help and be supportive – it’s a really nice feeling.

Did you undertake any work experience throughout your studies?
I completed work experience at barbers of Eden and London Town barbers and they have been so helpful with my course and skills and development of myself in my career. It’s been some of the most amazing times so far and they are always willing to offer better next steps.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
When I leave Petroc I plan to go into barbering full time with a job on the side to earn extra money. Petroc are so helpful, they offer advice and help with setting up future plans and give you the skills to set a future up for you.
