Biography
Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
I decided to go to Petroc as I did not want to do A levels and this course was more suited to me. Petroc also gave me more freedom than Sixth Form would have.
What made you pick this particular course?
I knew that I wanted to join an emergency service, I was just not sure on which one – this course gave me insight into all of them. I was already volunteering with St John Ambulance so I knew this was something I was willing to look at.
What were the highlights?
I loved going to see the military bases and how they worked, I also loved going skiing and sailing and the outdoor education side as well. I really enjoyed the major incidents course that I got to do where we worked with all the emergency services and helped them to train. Going down to the fire station was also very interesting and gave me something else to look at.
What have you done since leaving Petroc?
When I left Petroc I was still volunteering with St John Ambulance and I have progressed through with them. I am a first responder and also help teach first aid within the community, I also get to go all around the country doing first aid at different events.
What’s the long-term plan?
I am happy where I am at the moment and I love what I am doing. If I was to progress I would love to become a paramedic or even have my own business teaching first aid.
Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
If you want to join the emergency services or military but don’t know which one, then this is the course for you. You will make an amazing group of friends!
