Jason Irwin

Biography

Why did you choose to come to Petroc?
Petroc was well known to me as both my sisters went here. It was also the closest to me so that was a massive factor. They also offered a wide range of courses that I was interested in.

What made you pick this particular course?
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I was about to leave secondary school. I first applied for a full time mechanics course, but after looking into it I decided it wasn’t for me. I then saw an ad in the paper with Pearce Construction for a carpentry apprenticeship and just went with it, it was the best thing I ever did.

What did you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
The facilities for my course were great, everything we needed to practice on were always there and the teacher was brilliant too, always willing to help where needed.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
My plan is to stay where I’m currently employed with, Pearce Construction. They have treated me very well, and I hope to stay there for the very long time.

What’s the long-term plan?
I’d like to learn more about the runnings of construction sites. This really interests me and it’s something I’d like to pursue in the future.
