Joel Stanhope

Biography

What made you pick Petroc?
I chose Petroc as it is the closest college to home which made travel cheap and easy. I also chose it as most of my friends were going to it so I knew that I wouldn’t be totally new to everyone on my course.

What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
The thing I most enjoy about Petroc is the people. Everyone on my course is nice and we all get on very well. All the teachers are always willing to talk and offer help when needs be. The people on the courses next door to mine are friendly and I have made friends with people from a variety of backgrounds due to it.

Have you got involved in any enrichment activities?
I am involved with Christian Discussion Group on a Wednesday afternoon. What I enjoy most about it is the people as everyone comes from a different background and has different points of view on everything, we talk and listen and learn about each subject in a polite manner.

Did you undertake any work experience throughout your studies?
I have been doing shows within Petroc for work experience. I have enjoyed doing the shows. The experience has helped me to choose what I want to go on to do as I found I preferred some parts of it to others.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
When I leave Petroc I will be going to MetFilm school to study a degree in acting for screen. This will be in Leeds. After this, I hope to go into the film industry and star in many different projects.

Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
The advice that I would give to someone thinking about choosing this course is to be open and willing to do everything. My focus is becoming an actor, but this course has involved a lot of things such as singing and dancing which I am not particularly good at but in doing them, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and so my confidence has been boosted and I have learnt brand new things that I never thought I would.
