Nicola Collins-Fairest
Biography
What made you decide to study for your GCSEs?
My daughter was about to begin studying for her GCSE’s and it had me thinking about not having any GCSE qualifications myself. As I had schooled in New Zealand, I didn’t obtain the equivalent. It was then an opportunity came up so I thought, why not?!
What have you most enjoyed about the course?
As an adult learner coming back into education for the first time in 36 years, I was very much looking forward to connecting with other like minded students.
Although I felt as though I was starting back at square one with regards to English Language, I enjoyed how our tutor Rita, challenged me.
Rita along with the course content, pushed me out of my comfort zone at times as well as highlighted areas I needed to work more on l. This made me even more determined to succeed.
How has gaining your GCSEs helped you in the future?
Nowadays when looking through potential job applications, I can see that 99% of vacancies ask for a GCSE in English and/or Maths at a bare minimum. Although I didn’t do this course to further my working career, I can proudly say that it’s a qualification that I didn’t have 1 year ago.
Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
If it’s a thought, then follow through and make it happen! If nothing else you will gain some enjoyment out of it.
