Toby Burton

Biography

What made you pick this particular course/Petroc?
Whilst animal care was not my first option, I have always had an interest in animals and being able to work so close to them, from a zoo customer to a zoo keeper.

What have been the highlights so far?
My highlight has been visiting Exmoor Zoo.

What do you most enjoy about studying at Petroc?
I have enjoyed how inclusive Petroc is. There have been a lot of events for example the remembrance to the holocaust, awareness for LGBT etc. Also, there are really nice and supportive teachers and it is a positive learning environment.

Did you undertake any work experience throughout your studies?
I did my work experience at LA stables. So far I have completed 100+ hours, and it’s taught me a lot of things, including what working with animals in day to day life is like.

What do you plan to do when you leave Petroc?
When I leave Petroc, I would possibly like to go to university, or get a job in a shelter or guide dog training.

What’s the long-term plan?
I plan to progress into further study in animal care, and go into a career where I can help them.

Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
My advice is to do it! What is stopping you?
