Petroc has worked with NCS since 2012, delivering life-changing experiences to young people in North Devon, Mid Devon and Exeter. To date, we have worked with over 1,500 young people and have helped them to realise their potential, smash their future goals and get involved in a lot of fun activities!
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT US, WHAT EXACTLY IS NCS?
Designed for 16-17 year olds, NCS is a youth programme that runs every summer and autumn, during school holidays.
The experience is all about emboldening young people, by giving them the buzz of being an adult (without all the responsibilities and stress!). On NCS, participants taste for independence, mix with a new crowd and take on exciting challenges together.
It also helps young people to develop skills that will set them up for life after school. Participants then get a chance to use these new-found skills, by tackling a passion project of their choosing. NCS is dedicated to providing a platform for young people where they can speak up, get their voice heard and tackle real-world issues close to home.
The experience might last just a few weeks, but the impact? That lasts a lot longer. Nearly 600,000 young people have taken part in NCS, completing over 14.5 million hours of community action, and gaining priceless life experiences.

YOUR SUMMER 2021:
Last year wasn’t what any of us had planned, which has only made us even more determined to make summer 2021 one you’ll never forget (for all the right reasons!)
In the first phase, you’ll nurture your adventurous side, either by living away from home or by coming into Petroc each day to take on epic challenges. You could take on the high ropes, wild waves, or scale a wall, and by the end of the week will be left feeling fearless (and pretty worn out)! Don’t worry, you’ll have the weekend back home to catch your breath.
Next up? Get a crash course in 'adulting' and pick up skills to set you up for life. By the time you’re done, you’ll be speaking to a room full of people without freezing up, and know a whole load more about what you want from life after school.
for the final phase before you graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to use your voice and have a lasting impact. Want to see a change in your community? Countrywide? Or even globally? This is your chance to deliver an impressive ‘passion project’ – we can’t wait to see what you and your teammates achieve.
Now it’s time to get back together with your teammates, friends and family to show off and celebrate what you have achieved on programme. You’ll all be invited to a swanky celebration event and be presented with a certificate to evidence everything you have experienced and achieved on NCS.
Enjoyed your summer? Don’t want to let go? That’s okay! We run a year-round Local Youth Board - where you carry on pushing those passions!
When do we go?
This summer we will be running two- and three-week programmes on the following start dates. We have had to put in various contingencies to prepare for changes in Government guidance surrounding COVID-19 and a full list of FAQ’s surrounding this can be found on the NCS website. We understand that safety will be your number one priority when signing up to the programme so, if you have any additional questions about anything to do with the programme, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the NCS Petroc Team at email@example.com
- Monday 5 July 2021 (three weeks - to be reduced to two weeks depending on COVID guidelines in place)
- Monday 19 July 2021 (two weeks)
- Monday 2 August 2021 (three weeks - to be reduced to two weeks depending on COVID guidelines in place)
