Construction Multiskills – Skills Bootcamp

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer. 

This course will be delivered in person at our main campus in North Devon. You will gain an introduction to the practical skills in a range of trade occupations within the construction industry. These will include:

– Basic Bricklaying: You will improve on or learn new practical skills and underpinning knowledge.
– Basic Carpentry: You will learn the basics you need to build on a career in wood occupations.
– Introduction to Plastering: You will gain basic plastering skills – ideal if you have no prior experience and are considering a career in the construction industry.
– Small Scale Building Repairs: You will learn the practical skills required for small scale repairs in the the building sector.
– Introduction to Painting and Decorating: You will learn creative skills to get a step on the employment ladder in the painting and decorating industry.
– Tutorial/academic study skills: You will have access to a wide range of support provided by the college. his includes wellbeing support, careers information, advice and guidance and access to our health and fitness, library and other facilities.

Completion of this Skills Bootcamp is designed to lead into further training and employment as a bricklayer, carpenter, plaster, painter/decorator or in property maintenance.

Assessments

You will be assessed during each session on practice techniques learnt. On completion, you will receive a Petroc certificate of attendance for each aspect of the programme.

Entry Requirements

This Skills Bootcamp involves a commitment of 60 hours in person at our North Devon campus over 12 weeks.

Progression

Progression will a include a job interview with a local employer or use of the Bootcamp to improve your responsibilities and/or prospects within your current role
