Diploma in Beauty Therapy
On this Beauty Therapy study programme, you will learn the creative skills of a beauty therapist, including manicure, pedicure, gel nail polish application, facial skincare, eyelash and brow treatments, make-up, waxing, strip and cluster lashes.
You’ll also have the chance to use your skills in a real-life salon environment with paying clients and undertake reception duties. You will learn all about the skills needed to be able to deliver professional treatments for clients. You will initially practise on fellow students and then move on to working on paying clients.
Areas covered include:
– Gel nail polish application
– Facial skincare
– Eyelash and brow treatments
– Strip and Cluster Lashes
Alongside each skill area, you will be taught the background theory, related health and safety, client care, selling, and anatomy and physiology of the body.
You will be taught by industry professional staff within our commercial salons.
Throughout the qualification, a range of theory and practical assessments will support your learning and test your knowledge and skills development. You will need to be prepared to work outside of lessons to support your learning.
On-going assessment is by multiple choice question tests that you complete online, as well as working on clients to gain competency and confidence within this speciality field.
All entrants must hold four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent (or above), preferably including GCSE Maths and English. If you do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English you will continue studying these subjects alongside your chosen course(s). At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next level course
In order to succeed on this course, a creative flair and imagination will be needed.
You will require a high standard of personal presentation and good communication skills, as well as the ability to study anatomy and physiology. In addition you will be expected to gain 4 GCSEs at least a grade 3 or equivalent, preferably including, GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above. However, if you have not gained a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English you will be expected to continue studying these subjects.
Following the successful completion of all aspects of the programme, you will be ready to progress on to a Level 3 beauty related programme such as beauty therapy, Nail Technology, or a Level 3 apprenticeship.
Some learners choose to enter employment in the beauty sector in salons, spas or beauty counters.
Facilities and resources
You will train in our fully-equipped beauty salon with access to up-to-date equipment and resources. You will be taught by professional staff with several years of industry experience.
Most lecturers are still employed within the industry to ensure their skills stay current and relevant.
Q: Will I need a kit for this course and how much will it cost?
A: Yes, you will need to purchase a kit containing your tools and products for the course. Each kit costs approximately £300, but there are means-tested bursaries available to help towards the cost for more information please contact advice and guidance.
Q: Will I be expected to wear a uniform?
A: Yes, it is a requirement that you wear professional attire for all your practical salons. This will include a tunic, you will receive an order form for the tunic, black trousers and flat black shoes.
Q: How many days will I be expected to be in college?
A: You will be expected to be in college for approximately 3 days per week between the hours of 9:30 and 2:30
Q: Can I still have a part time job and study?
A: Yes, you can have a job, however, we recommend that you only work for 10 hours per week.
