Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy

This course covers all aspects of practical sports massage including assessment, postural analysis, sports massage movements, health and safety, set-up of treatment area, consultation and aftercare advice. You will also study the theory behind the qualification including anatomy and physiology of the body, sports nutrition and theory of injuries.

The qualification was developed collaboratively with the following organisations; Active IQ, Central YMCA Qualifications, CIBTAC, ITEC and VTCT with input from the industry through the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT)

Units covered in this programme include:
– Assessment
– Postural analysis
– Sports massage movements
– Health and safety
– Set-up of treatment area
– Consultation
– Aftercare advice

In addition, you will study the theory behind the qualification including anatomy and physiology of the body, sports nutrition and theory of injuries.

You will be expected to complete a number of treatments at home during the course to cover the 50 hours of logged treatments. You will also need to complete a basic first aid course before you finish the certificate.

Course details

Assessments

Assessment is by practical observation of treatments performed, assignment work which you will present in a portfolio, and a log of treatment.

Entry Requirements

You must be aged 17 or over to undertake this course.

Progression

You will be able to use this qualification to help you gain employment, or further your career.

Facilities and resources

We have a fully-equipped salon with hydraulic couches, rotary massagers, audio-sonic and infra-red lamps to ensure professional standards of treatment are supported.

FAQs

Q: How many days will I need to attend lessons?

A: This course will be delivered one afternoon/evening a week depending upon what suits your lifestyle. You will also need to keep a treatment log to map your journey to being a competent therapist.
