Skills for Work is a hands-on course designed to help you prepare for working life by gaining real experience in a fully functioning restaurant – The Liberty Centre.
Learn in a Real Workplace
• Work in the kitchen or front-of-house at the Liberty Centre
• Build confidence and develop essential work habits
• Work as part of a team in a real customer-facing environment
• Learn about food safety, customer service, timekeeping and communication

Course details
Assessments
On this course, you’ll take part in an initial assessment to help us understand your skills and qualities, ensuring you’re placed on the right path for success. Through practical activities and supportive teaching, you’ll develop core employability skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and time management.
Progression
Once you complete the course, your next step could be a supported internship, giving you real-world experience and further boosting your opportunities for employment.
Study Programme
Every full-time student at Petroc will have their own Study Programme which will include:
– Your academic or vocational qualification.
– Maths and English Language development – if you have not achieved GCSE grade 4 in either of these subjects.
– Work Experience – hours will vary depending on your qualification and course level.
– Tutor Support – to support your personal, academic and professional development.
– Sustainability – helping you to identify how you can improve the sustainability of your future employment sectors.
– Personal Development Awards – developing six key areas of personal and employability behaviours to prepare you for the working world.
