Tracy studied the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
Why did you choose to come to Petroc?Because my children have grown up, it was time for me to re-educate myself. I love working with children, so I decided to take this course.
And what made you pick this particular course?I started with Level 2 first to see if I was capable of completing the course. Because I enjoyed the Level 2 course, I decided to do Level 3 and it’s been a real blessing as I’ve enjoyed both practical and theory.
Which elements of your course do you particularly enjoy? As the assignments have been in many different areas of childhood, it has opened my eyes to the world of children in ways that I never knew, and this has been quite challenging but rewarding. Seeing children develop and seeing their potential is exciting for their years ahead.
What have been the highlights so far? There were 2 highlights. A trip to Barnstaple Guildhall where we learnt about the history of the hall and Barnstaple. The second highlight was a project on The Great Fire of London where the children wrote and built houses for the project.
What do you plan to do when you leave college?I would like to think that I could go into the education system for employment and further my knowledge of what I’ve been learning.
What’s the long-term plan?At the moment, just to gain experience and learn on the job. In the future I'd like to consider possibly taking another course in line with working with children.
Any advice for someone thinking of choosing the same course as you?
As a mature student, I highly recommend this course.
It has opened a new area of life that has been a great journey so far and I look forward to the future working with children. My lecturer has been a great support and helps to build your confidence.
