SURF LIFE SAVING ACADEMY

Led by Nick Thorn, one of the UK’s most decorated watermen and a world-class surf coach, this exciting new academy will push your limits, boost your confidence, and equip you with essential skills for careers in lifeguarding, surf coaching, and event management.

What Will You Do?

Train like a professional lifesaver – swimming, board paddling, ski paddling, and sprinting.
Compete in surf life-saving events – master beach flags, surf races, and rescue techniques.
Learn event management – gain behind-the-scenes experience in organising surf competitions.
Build strength & endurance – develop fitness levels essential for lifesaving careers.

Active, motivated individuals who love sport, fitness, and the ocean.
Those interested in lifeguarding, surf coaching, sports performance, or event management.
Anyone looking to push themselves, gain new skills, and be part of an elite training programme.

With over 20 years of experience, Nick has competed at the highest level worldwide, trained elite lifeguards, and even swum solo from Lundy to Woolacombe! His knowledge, passion, and experience will inspire you to be the best.

We will be having trial days to help with numbers and abilities for the course.

These will be on:

Saturday 26 April at the Tarka Leisure Centre from 4pm - 6pm in the pool for swim assessment and lifesaving skills.
Saturday 17 May at Putsborough beach from 10am to 12noon - introduction on the beach and sea events for surf lifesaving
Thursday 5 June at Putsborough from 6pm to 8pm - on the beach and in the sea for board, ski and rescue induction
Thursday 10 June at Putsborough from 6pm to 8pm - help to organise a training session for nippers in the sea and the beach
