Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills

This Introduction to Counselling Skills course will give you insight into counselling work and help you consider if you wish to train to become a counsellor.

During the sessions, you will enhance your emotional and social skills – including listening and communication skills – which will help you to understand yourself and your relationships with partners, family, work colleagues and friends more clearly. It will raise awareness on how to communicate with others and how this links with the way other people communicate with you.

You will be mostly trained in small groups and build a portfolio consisting of work that shows your understanding of what has been covered in class and personal reflections on what you have learned about yourself.

Please note: There are 16 places on each Award in Introduction to Counselling course. When the course is full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list and contacted in the order they applied as places become available.

Prospective students are advised not to come on this course if they have experienced a major trauma within 6 months of the start date.

You must be proficient in using the Internet and in using a laptop/PC and printer.
