Functional Skills English
This course is designed for anyone who wants to improve their English skills for either the workplace or further study.
You will cover a variety of topics designed to help you improve your understanding of different texts and improve your spelling, punctuation and grammar. This will enable you to write confidently and effectively in a range of situations such as emails, letters and reports. You will also work on communication skills which are vital transferable skills for the workplace.
You can study your course in person at either our North Devon campus or our Tiverton campus.
N.B. Fees will apply if you have already achieved a grade A-C or 9-4.

Assessments
There are three assessed elements: a reading exam, a writing exam and speaking and listening assessment which consists of a presentation and a discussion.
Entry Requirements
You will need a Level 1 English qualification or evidence of working at this level. If you have not achieved this you can sit an initial assessment to check if this is the right course for you.
Progression
Functional skills English Level 2 is a key qualification for employment, further and higher education. Gaining this qualification can open up a wide range of courses including access to Higher Educations Diplomas and Level 3 qualifications, as well as enabling progression within the workplace.

Q: Is there any funding available to help pay for my course?
A: Many of our courses are free to attend (subject to eligibility). If you do not have a Level 2 qualification in English the course will be free. We will carry out a fee assessment when you enrolment to establish if you meet this criteria.
Q. I have not studied for a while, what support will be available?
A. As well as support from your lecturer, you will also have access to our Adult Success Coach team. They can support you through the course by helping you to break down any barriers to learning and completing the course.
