GCSE English (Online)
A GCSE in English Language can be your key to future success in work and education.
During the course, you will read and analyse a number of written and spoken, fiction and non-fiction, texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, including letters, blogs and articles. You will develop your skills by writing a variety of texts for different audiences and purposes as well as improving your spelling, punctuation and grammar.
This is an online independent study course. All the lessons are on the Google Classroom where you work through lessons, access resources and submit your work each week. The lecturer is available once a week at a designated time via a group Google Hangout for any questions or queries that you may have.
N.B. Fees will apply if you have already achieved a grade A-C or 9-4.

Assessments
Your weekly work will be marked by your lecturer who will also provide feedback to enable you to constantly improve.
There are two final exams in May/June as well as a speaking and listening assessment. In Paper 1 you will analyse a fiction text and complete a piece of creative writing. In Paper 2 you will compare non-fiction texts from different centuries and complete a piece of writing expressing an opinion. Throughout the 30-week course, you will have six assessments to complete as well as weekly set work.
Entry Requirements
You will need a grade 3/D at GCSE English, or evidence of working at this level. If you have not achieved this qualification, you can sit an initial assessment to check if this is the right course for you or if our progression course would be more suitable.
Progression
Gaining a Grade 4 or above at GCSE English language can open up a wide range of courses including Access to Higher Education Diplomas and Level 3 qualifications, as well as enabling progression within the workplace.

Q. What can I do if I do not meet the entry requirements?
A. We will be able to support you on a pathway to achieving the GCSE qualification through our progression routes including functional skills qualifications You will complete an initial assessment and we will discuss the right pathway for you.
Q. I have not studied for a while, what support will be available?
A. As well as the Google Hangout with your lecturer, you will also have access to one of our adult success coaches. They can support you through the course by helping you to break down any barriers to learning and completing the course.
